Working for the community off duty and on

The Abbotsford Fire Fighters’ Association has a long history of volunteer work in the community. Over the years we have supported many programs and events including:

BCPFFA Burn Camp

Young burn survivors attend one week of camp each July. Over one thousand children from across B.C. between the ages of 6 to 18 have attended since 1994. The camp provides young burn survivors with an opportunity to share experiences with their peers and receive valuable one-on-one support from junior and senior counselors and other burn survivors.

Burn Fund Boot Drive

Every year the Abbotsford Fire Fighters ‘shake the boot’ to collect donations from the community in support of the BC Burn Fund. The Abbotsford Fire Fighters Burn Fund has raised $180,000 over the past 20 years! This year our Boot Drive is November 21-24. Please look for us outside Sevenoaks Shopping Center

Bright Nights in Stanley Park

Every winter season, our membership assists with setup, operations and teardown of the annual BC Burn Fund “Bright Nights” at Stanley Park. During the holiday season, the Bright Nights Christmas Train and Stanley Park Train Plaza sparkle with three million twinkling lights. The campaign raises over $400,000 for BC Burn Fund programs.

In 2018, our local added our own personal touch to the decorations with our Mini Barn Display

Canuck Place Waterslide Day

Canuck Place recreation therapy events allow families to create moments and memories together that may not be otherwise possible. Waterslide Day at Cultus Lake Waterslides is an event we are extremely proud to be a part of. It is humbling to be able to share this experience with the children and their families.

Abbotsford Fire Fighters take on many roles throughout the day. We help with everything from socializing with the families to carrying the children up the stairs and helping them ride down safely. It allows the kids to be kids for a little while and the smiles and excited reactions are great to see!

Canuck Place Fishing Day

The recreation therapy fishing day at the Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery allows children and families to experience the thrill of landing a fish and the feel of their slippery scales. We are honoured to share this experience with these courageous children and their families.

Canuck Place Christmas Lights Display

Each Year, AFFA members help prepare Canuck Place’s Dave Lede House for the holiday season. While families are dealing with the unthinkable stresses of having a sick child, Canuck Place aims to make them feel at home. We are happy to volunteer our time to make this home away from home as festive as possible.
